Hello!

I'm about to embark on my first home brewing quest, and could do with some friendly advice.

For some reason my tap water has started smelling like rank old man morning tea breath, and I'm some what hesitant about using it in my home brew.

What could I use as a replacement? Is it OK to just nip to Tesco and buy the cheapest bottled water i can find? Or should I be using something more specialist? Or is there some thing i can add to the cheap water to give it the minerals (or whatever) i need?

I will be using a home brew kit (in a tin) that i received for christmas.

I look forward to receiving your replies, if any.

Thanks!

is your tap water usually that flavoursome ? or is it a temporary thing ( water works doing some work ? )
I'd get in touch with your water company and see what the problem is. You should get clean fresh water out of your tap

In the meantime get some bottled water from the supermarket, the cheapest you can find will be ok ( as Dell boy it probably comes from a normal tap somewhere ! )

I've used the 17p-for-2L bottled water before and it works fine, but yes - if your water has anything other than a faint chloriney smell about it, contact your water company. You are paying for clean water and if it smells as you say, that could indicate something untowards in it...

Both Tesco and Asda have bottled water at 17p for 2 litres and it comes with a free 2 litre storage vessel :D . At an additional £1.70 for a 20 litre brew I don't think I will ever use tap water in mine.

Thank you all for your swift replies!

I did respond earlier, but i must have messed it up as it isn't showing.

My funny water has only come about recently, so yes, I think I need to contact my water supplier.

But that's fantastic news. Just what I wanted to hear.

If all goes to plan i should be getting my brew on tomorrow, morning so wish me luck!

Thanks again
