I use the heavier duty SS 5l kegs that use the beer spears for dispensing and want to get some more 5l kegs. Currently I have a new beer spear for each keg (3 spears and 3 kegs), but wonder if that is necessary if I am force-carbing the kegs?

Does anybody use this method or recommend against it?

Background - I have 3 kegs currently and one of them is not dispensing properly for some currently unknown reason. My plans is to swap the beer spears once I have finished the current keg and see if I can still consume the beer it holds (A good New England IPA), which makes me wonder if that is an option for future kegs? Just use the standard cap on my kegs until the time is right and then rotate my spears among a larger number of kegs?
PS. I use 5l SS kegs as they fit in the fridge. The 3.6L are too tall and I may as well bring 4 bottles rather than a 2L keg. Anything above 5L won't fit.

Check the length of the silicone dip tube. I’ve encountered the exact same problem with my Mangrove Jacks kegs. Shortened it in small increments and works a treat now. Too much and you’ll leave a lot of beer in the bottom.

I have assumed that's the problem. I did cut the tub at 45 degrees, but that might be perfect to suck onto the dip at the bottom of the keg. In the aim of not ruining the beer, I thought I would swap spears and than purge the air. I will then mess about with the problem spear with a keg filled with water/cleaning solution.

However, I am still wondering if I can keg uncarbed beer with the caps supplied rather than the spear? (swapping to spears later)
