Can someone here please explain to me how on earth tourism is 'sustainable' and green?

Recently a company running 5 diesel boats to take people diving has won the 'gold' award for sustainable tourism. How is running diesel boats sustainable or green? How is using gallons and gallons of fresh water to wash the boats at the end of the day green? How is running a big compressor all day long sustainable-especially in a country that needs to turn off all non essential power for a few hours each evening to cope with demand? How is dumping all the effluent at sea sustainable? How is wrapping hordes of sandwiches in cling film green?

How is tourism sustainable and green? It's not. Not by any standards. Tourists are people touring somewhere unfamilair to them. They get there by car, plane, boat whatever. They then spend loads of money on a load of touristy ***** and send postcards-made from trees back to wherever they come from. These postcards go on a plane. Powered by fossil fuel. Motorsport aside i reckon tourism is the most un-green thing on the planet. Oh, my arse probably comes close to being the most un-green thing on the planet. I'd give a herd of cows a good run on methane production i reckon.

I'm getting a bit bored with everyone suddenly 'pretending' they are all green and sustainable just because they are the new buzz words. Bio fuel is another thing, while i'm having a rant, that is utter ********. Countries like Borneo are deforesting huge areas to plant oil palms, so rich, fat, wealthy idiots can spout off about how they are 'doing their bit to save the planet'. So your forcing poor nations, the ones that have the big rainforests-the lungs of the earth, to chop it all down to grow a food crop which they then buy at a ridiculously cheap rate to turn into fuel for their oversize ego and vehicles. Jeez.

dont get me started on Bio-fuels. i get this all the time with the planning authorities here. they make us put biofuel electric stations in sites to gain points for the "Code for Sustainable Homes" but what they fail to realise is that the biofuel has to be hauled over 100 miles on a STANDARD DIESEL LORRY EVERY MONTH.

bio fuel is a number crunching CHEAT. they say it's eco friendly because the crops that are converted to bio fuel suck in as much CO2 as they produce when burned. completely forgetting the amount of CO2 it takes to ship the fecking stuff to the bio burner.

GRRRR

The lungs of the earth are actually the oceans . . . . . phytoplankton in the Pacific/Atlantic absorb most CO2 and produce most O2.

Biofuels actually produce more CO2 than they absorb . . . Before shipping/processing is taken into accounts.

Give me nice big nuclear AGR plants any day

Don't get me started on this green wash BS.

There is a very sustainable way of getting fuel, in the form of methane(which if memory serves is 8x worse greenhouse gas). Using a technology which as about a century old, which is a methane digester. And the source of this methane..... raw sewage, farm slurry, organic waste thats being land filed, something that is not going to run out  this could be mixed with natural gas or used to fuel vehicles. And the by product would be water and CO2. Problem is that it dosent fit in with the carbon mindset that is driving everything. Whilst it would not by a long chalk provide all our energy needs it would reduce a bad greenhouse gas. Think of the old slag heaps and landfills where currently they burn this off, it could cook your tea or heat your home

Oh and whats with the recycling BS, that then gets landfiled in china or india. 20/30 years ago we had a great amount of systems that REUSED stuff.

Alot of this green wash and BS is for the demonically dumb, that want all the stuff when they want it, and yet with a bit of "recycling" and sustainable tourism, they don't feel that they are screwing the world around  Its like some of the hotels I stay in thet have the heating on all the time so you have to get the AC on(cause there is no opening window) to bring the room down to a liveable temp, and then you go into the bathroom, and there is a sign telling you to reuse the towels to save the planet(which is wrong we arnt saving the planet, it will keep on spinning ), which is part of the hotel environmental policy

I could go on, but I need to keep the blood pressure down  Its just there are so many simple things we could do without this BS. Personally I think the Carbon/enviromental thing is being pushed so much, because we as a species have wasted so much of the earths natural resources on crap. And making one molecule the enemy makes it easier to sell.

i thought most of those BS's were referring to me! maybe i need to change my name so it doesn't abbreviate to the abbreviation of ********
