Can someone here please explain to me how on earth tourism is 'sustainable' and green?
Recently a company running 5 diesel boats to take people diving has won the 'gold' award for sustainable tourism. How is running diesel boats sustainable or green? How is using gallons and gallons of fresh water to wash the boats at the end of the day green? How is running a big compressor all day long sustainable-especially in a country that needs to turn off all non essential power for a few hours each evening to cope with demand? How is dumping all the effluent at sea sustainable? How is wrapping hordes of sandwiches in cling film green?
How is tourism sustainable and green? It's not. Not by any standards. Tourists are people touring somewhere unfamilair to them. They get there by car, plane, boat whatever. They then spend loads of money on a load of touristy ***** and send postcards-made from trees back to wherever they come from. These postcards go on a plane. Powered by fossil fuel. Motorsport aside i reckon tourism is the most un-green thing on the planet. Oh, my arse probably comes close to being the most un-green thing on the planet. I'd give a herd of cows a good run on methane production i reckon.
I'm getting a bit bored with everyone suddenly 'pretending' they are all green and sustainable just because they are the new buzz words. Bio fuel is another thing, while i'm having a rant, that is utter ********. Countries like Borneo are deforesting huge areas to plant oil palms, so rich, fat, wealthy idiots can spout off about how they are 'doing their bit to save the planet'. So your forcing poor nations, the ones that have the big rainforests-the lungs of the earth, to chop it all down to grow a food crop which they then buy at a ridiculously cheap rate to turn into fuel for their oversize ego and vehicles. Jeez.
