probably unlikely..
urban myth... :hmm:
millions of people use supermarket fuel ,
and i dont hear of large number engine failures,
its more likely that engines are damaged by poor maintenance ,cambelts not changed and oil forgotten...some people have no idea of a cars functions.. :?

if i fill up my car at asda with in 30miles my engin starts to pink in low gears it never happends if i get petrol in a proper petrol station ...my mate is a mechanic and said stay away from all supermarket fuel ...
he said if i dindt id get burned out valves...

my car is fine now but when i get realy skint i go back to asda...
but as soon as i can i get proper petrol ...

so id say no urban myth.. :nono: .

regards mick.. :hat: .

I followed a Police car into my local Tesco garage earlier, where it filled up.

I've seen the local rozzers fill up at Tesco too. I've driven over 150,000 miles on Tesco and Sainsburys fuel in the last 3 years and never had a problem.

My local Sainsburys did have a problem a few years ago when they mixed the fuel tanks up and people were putting petrol in their diesel cars and diesel in their petrol ones but that was discovered very quickly when the cars didn't make it off the forecourt.

Jesus, thats what is known as a "proper knob" mistake, how the hell did they manage that?

No idea, but I bet someone got in a lot of trouble for it!

Sorry it's FACT!

The motor industry and the Police confirm it. Its the extra Ethanol that burns hotter, probably not that noticeable by most steady eddie drivers that dont go over 45 but in higher performance cars and high revving bikes it will burn things out

I don't get what the police have to do with it. :wha: :wha: :wha:

Here it is again from the original post:

I spoke to a Policeman friend and he said that years ago they Police had a nationwide account with Tesco for fuel. That was until they started getting problems with engines and it turned out to be the same problem, too much ethanol. Tesco paid for the repairs and swore them to secrecy, which is why you never see a police car in a supermarket garage.

Each to their own as always but i have just done a search on the subject and and there is more Ethanol in supermarket petrol and less detergent is supermarket diesel.

You buy cheap you pay dear. i know my van does less mpg when i fill up at morrisons than it does on Esso fuel.

Im intrigued into the claims of better mpg with non supermarket fuel so im gonna do some calculations(or rather excel is) and see what works out better.try 4 or 5 different brands. Same amount of fuel put in and see what mpg I get, any noticeable difference in the running of the car and the cost per mile.

Also if anyones interested, 5p off litre at Shell, no purchase required :)
