Bottled this rgj strawberry n kiwi just a week ago and my missus polished off the last bottle tonight, she says its the best yet. You will like this one chippy for sure. Will have to make a bigger batch like you're doing next time.

Frogbrew, did you use brewing sugar, or run-of-the-mill sugar from the supermarket? I've always made from kits (more recently some WOWs) and have always used brewing sugar. Thus far, the results have been just fine, but have just come back from Asda armed with the RGJ Strawberry & Kiwi, and am going to take over the kitchen later to make a batch, and wondered what your batches were made with. It sounds so good (the missus is already asking how long it'll take to be ready!), so wanted to make sure it comes out as well as it possibly can.

Thoughts?

MrP i cannot speak for Frogbrew but i have read (and made wine following) hundreds of supermarket juice recipes and all use "run-of-the-mill sugar from the supermarket" no need to pay for brewing sugar. :thumb:

Thanks Chippy - that's quite reassuring. As I said - I've always used brewing sugar, as that's what various kits have stipulated. But your info has just made my home-brewing even better value \o/

Thank you!

I have made a few of the cheaper kits and most say you can use either, as i am a tight barsteward i have always used Tate and Lyles finest.

Like chippy says mr p, any sugar will do t&l/whitworths. I've been getting it from poundstretcher just lately at 49p a kilo.
Let us know how your first try at WOW goes...

Thanks Frogbrew - Chippy told me yesterday that brewing sugar wasn't necessary, so I have the RGJ strawberry and kiwi bubbling away nicely in the kitchen now - an awful lot of pulp has settled at the top, so was glad I'd not filled right to the neck just yet!

This isn't the first WOW I've done - the first was the original WOW recipe that I found on here (have to agree with other comments - it's bit of a marmite thing - either love or hate it) - which went down well with family. Second was a wgj, apple and pineapple, which whilst quite palatable, had a really odd smell to it - almost musty

Taste was initially rich in the mouth - almost sherry-like, but then a very dry aftertaste - if that makes sense :?

Still learning, but the results have thus far been very good - family have all been trying my "experiments" and no-one's had any complaints just yet!

I'm so glad I found this forum - the help and advice so far has been great, and really looking forward to seeing how the rgj strawberry & kiwi comes out - Mrs P was asking within minutes of me putting it all together - just when it was going to be ready!

Mrs Tea is the same.

The rgj strawb n kiwi does leave a lot of pulp behind but I topped up with apple juice after first rack as I lost probably half ltr more than usual wows. Some sort of filter would be good to minimise the loss.

Yes - saw your post about the apple juice. Have already planned to filter what's left of the pulp through something, but thanks for the advice :thumb:

Am about to try making my first WOW following the amazing recipes on here.
I am just wondering (and sorry if this has been asked 100 times before but I can't find it!) how long after bottling can these be stored for on average? I would like to make some that you can drink now but also store for several months.

Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum

If you are thinking of ageing these supermarket juice based wines for several month to improve the taste dont bother, some do improve after a couple of weeks but most are great as soon as bottled, they are quick and easy to make so if you think of 3 weeks from start to bottle and a couple of weeks ageing (some don't need it), you can make up stocks as you need it.

Thank you for the advice Chippy_Tea going to make a batch of red to drink now....fingers crossed!

Was plannnig on using:

1l Red grape juice
1.5l cranberry juice
1tsp pectolase
1tsp nutrient
1tsp wine yeast
1tsp glycerine
1 cup of strong (2 bags) tea

figured as this is the first time I have brewed wine not from a kit I would err on the side of caution

Sounds good, a word of warning only fill to the beginning of the DJ shoulder as the red juice can get a bit vigorous, you can top up later when its died down a bit.

I have always used water as the finished wine is strong enough for our taste, try it with water this time and if its too thin you can add juice to give more flavour.
