I stopped using juice with preservative after i had problems with a Ribena wine when i first started making wine, i boiled it but don't think it gets rid of all the preservative and it makes for a very slow fermentation.

Let us know how yours gets on.

thrown them away now, but I think I got the idea of it in the end, I done a easy rose that you put up, 100% red grape and 100%apple, that was fine.
then I done another one
rgj 100%, forest fruit from concentrate 27%, and I added another ltr of cranberry from concentrate 35 % I think. ? what do you think

I know when i used to make cranberry and WGJ it tasted quite strong, they were below 50% juice so i used 2 x cranberry and 1 x WGJ, it should work out well, keep us posted.

Rgj and orange jiuce transfered into second dj clearing nicely. Got a gob full from the siphon and the orange seems to b the dominant taste will leave now for 2 weeks to clear naturally. Will then decide whether finning are required.

The standard juice wine and WOW recipes use Nutrient and Pectolace, i noticed you have used neither.

Pectolace -

Pectolase added to the fruit pulp has two effects, reducing the risk of a pectin haze and increasing the yield of juice from the pulp as the pectolase liquifies the pulp
.

Nutrient -

Imagine that you're about to participate in a great test of physical endurance - the New York City Marathon. Would you attempt such a feat knowing you hadn't eaten anything the night before? Of course not! And yet, without realizing it, many home winemakers are asking their yeast to perform a similar Herculean task without the benefit of basic nourishment.

From the perspective of wine yeast, it takes a lot of energy to fully ferment a quantity of grape juice into wine. As concerned winemakers, we must do our utmost to ensure the fermentation environment provides all the nutrients the wine yeast needs - when it needs it.

I thought with a wilko sachet its a all in one, as with the kit packs there no pect or nutrients in that. and I read the someone has done this without it. I have got some on order and should be here tomorrow, will it be ok to put some in once here.

if I remember rightly (should have written it down !)
was
2 x cherry good juice (on offer in sainsburys £1 each)
and 1 x lidl RGJ 95p
800 grm sugar
tannin and citric acid and pectolse . was a bit dry so back sweetened as you suggested but with canderell . more than a bit impressed with it !!
got a few more on the go
but they are tea bag wines cant wait to see how they go, but quick question, they are reading about 995 after a week (very warm in that bedroom due to the vivs) but very very cloudy, taste good and wouldn't want much dryer, can I stop them or should I leave them for another week ???

Just measured it with the hydrometer and it's at 0.990. Tasted some from the sampling jar and it's fairly dry, quite strong and very nice actually. I've topped it up a little with cooled boiled water but left around 2" head space in the PET DJ. I don't have a thermometer on it but it's been kept in a room that's an almost constant 20deg, i can't explain why it's gone so fast, it was lava lamping for around 2 1/2 days but never quite frothed all the way to the airlock.

Five days is very fast, do you have a hydrometer? if you don't its difficult to know if it has finished, airlock activity cannot always be relied on as a sigh of fermentation progress.

You could taste it and see if its sweet or dry this would give some indication.

If it has finished you need to leave it another week in the DJ to allow the yeast to clean up after itself then its time to rack to a clean DJ.

If it doesn't say it's included on the sachet it isn't, you can add it when it arrives.

i knocked up 3 WOWs, with what i could find in tesco

they only had red grape, some of it was red grape + some berries

used tesco own 100% pure pressed juice

demi 1
1ltr red grape
1ltr apple & pear

demi 2
1ltr red grape + berries
1 ltr apricot & nectarine

demi 3
1ltr red grape
1ltr apple & mango

added to each
water to fill dj up
700gms of sugar
1 cup of strong black tea
citric acid
150gm honey
yeast nutrient
gervin wine yeast {wilko}

they all had similar readings around the 1075-1082 mark.

all popin away like acne on a teenages face

all 3 smell a bit "funky" but thats prob down to it sharing an area with 2 x 30 bottle wine kits and 2 x 40pint beer kits i have on the go, and a broken nose.

can I clarify as have watched the videos a few time, when you say leave another week do you mean as it is or rack it off when it reaches 990 and leave it another week ? ( mine reached that a few days ago and don't want it much dryer but it only took 1 week to reach this stage as the room is warm)

Leave it in the first DJ for the extra week after fermentation has finished then rack to the second DJ for clearing.

They lose a lot of the colour by the time they are finished fermenting, if you look at the finished orange wine in the first post in this thread you can see the difference.

i quite like it, especially if it tastes better than it looks, {i must be ahead on this} so when you offer it over to a victim, sorry guest they give it the "oh, im drivin just a small one or no, im on medication" and it knock their socks off, you know they'll be back for more.

the middle DJ hasnt shown much in the way of bubbles of late so i dropped the hydromiter into it and it went to 990 and hit the bottom of the DJ, it would have prob gone lower if there was enough height.

the thing is, IT STINKS, its awful, like a dead dog wrapped in a blanket thats been fished outta a cess pit.

i racked it off to a clean stertile DJ and airlock, whilst i ask what to do?

what shall i do

add stabiliser
add finnings
leave it
send it off for tests as ebola cure

When I read what's in there I was not expecting much but not the smell you are describing, I would leave it and see if it goes.
