I want to take a corny keg camping with us,I like my homebrew lagers ( coopers/muntons/youngs etc). However some of my mates are not a fan of homebrew
My question is as the cornies were originally for coke and pepsi could we buy a crate of stella between us poor it in my cornie and dispense as normal???Will it go flat or can i leave it to settle and charge it with co2 prior to going.

Thanks

No you cant Arthur, the beer police will find you and it won't be pretty, if it were me I'd bring me beer in my cornie, if anyone wanted some great, if not, supply yourself, Stella..........
For my honest opinion on what would happen is the beer would foam and oxidise a lot pouring into cornies, you will need to pressurise again with gas after purging air. Unless you have some gas to dispence it will go flat quickly, the gas escaping solution won't keep up with beer demand from the cornie.

What you should do is go onto All Grain and I promise you they will turn their nose up at stella after a few of your brews, if I am going to a party most of my mates don't bring beer anymore if they know that I am, they bring food or wine for the girls and the men drink homebrew, some of them once turned their nose up at homebrew, not anymore.
Sorry if it sounded like a lecture, it was not meant to be, just go AG, you wont belive how easy it is :thumb:

Personally, I see no reason why this wouldn't work but there's a few provisios. Ideally, the keg should be purged with C02 prior to 'pouring' the bottles / cans into it to try to minimise oxidation. I say 'pouring' and I use the term loosley, the beer would have to be trickled in very carefully avoiding as much air ingress as possible. Once filled, lid on, hit it with C02, release the pressure then re-gas at about 15PSI (room temperature assumed here) and it should be good to go. Just ensure that enough C02 is maintained to dispense the beer.

All of that said, I too would think twice about filling my cornies with commercial crap. :) Other than my baby keg that has carbonated council pop (water) which is handy for me as I like fizzy water during the day. :)

I have to ask ... why not just take bottles?

Or... take homebrew in your keg for yourself and let your mates drink crap.

Thanks for the responses chaps..... :thumb:

Wasnt to sure if this could or should be done to my cornie.

Like Tony said...I will drink my brew and they can have the crap  But i bet when there lager goes they will be asking for some of mine :D
