Suma Malt Extract

Evening all :hat:
I am thinking about doing my first extract beer and found this on amazon. It's a LME and at 3 kg for £13 its much cheaper then DME's I found online. I'm thinking about using 3kg of this + 0.5 kg sugar and some citra /cascade hops to make an IPA. Would this taste OK or do I have to add some steeping grains ? I am not bothered about the colour :)

Several recent threads about this LME. Suggest you use the forum search engine top RHS to find out more by searching 'Suma'.
My only comment is that some cheap LMEs gives the finished beer the homebrew twang, whereas premium LME and DME don't seem to do that.
If you do decide to go ahead you might find this useful, and in it there is a recipe for an AIPA which uses Simcoe but which you could convert for your hops.

Hi,
I have used this product in the past - when brewing kits. I replaced the sugar with malt extract (adding 10% extra to allow for the water content of the extract) and never had any issues with it. Don't know how it would be if used in larger quantities, but at that price, it's worth experimenting. Good luck !

Thanks for the reply's , I think I'll go for another extract kit for now and then try this or the H&B over the summer . I will let you know how did it go :thumb:

If they have any available H&B Malt is on a good deal at present with a buy one get one half price offer which works out at about £5/kg and if you use the discount code mentioned here
