I noticed a thread in the equipment section about the above, although the poster's website now appears to be defunct.

There is a link to DVfuels, etc.

I was wondering, assuming previous use has been food etc, are these suitable as fermenters? I was thinking about the seal around the top especially, and drilling them for a tap.

I don't see why not, but then again I could be wrong.

Cheers in advance

I have 6 of these which I use for the kettle hlt and mt as well as fv's. Had no problem at all with them.

I use 45 Litre Mango Chutney Bins for fermenting I think they are basically the same apart from the size.

I got mine from here http://www.smithsofthedean.co.uk/

I have drilled them for a tap.

The lids don't seal on the Mango Chutney bins, but that doesn't worry me.

:wha: owwwh man, damn that's a proper paradise of plastic Runwell-Steve, the wife's face is gonna look like this when I get something delivered  :nono:

How much did you pay Steve I can't seem to find a price for them :hmm:

I have a couple of 60ltr barrels from D&V fuels bought several months ago, they're only a few miles from me.
Firstly the barrels could of contained smelly foods or ink/dye, but D&V will tell you if you ask. Secondly the barrels are not blue on the inside, but seem to be coated with a white plastic.
I believe mine contain some food material, haggled beer brain can't remember now, but spotlessly clean when I picked them up. Obviously I thoroughly cleaned and sterilized before using them to ferment beer. Never had a problem and they fit lovely in my heated cupboard.

HERES D&V's ebay shop

im gonna check this out
water mains are mostly hdpe High Density Polyethylene.but this stuff wont stop the ingression of cross contaminates. this plastic is sometimes sealed with ptfe Polytetrafluoroethylene as ptfe is resistant to most err thingy's that are nasty stuff like acid oil petrol (like the soles of my DM's) and so on

for anyone in Leeds or Hemel Hempstead, I picked up two 60L plastic buckets with lid from http://www.fentonpackaging.co.uk/#

UN approved made by casone http://www.fentonpackaging.co.uk/casone_buckets.php

mine have two handles in the body of the bucket, rather than a wire handle the website doesn't show 60L, but they have hundreds

proper thick plastic too, with fins inside for rigidity £12.75ea incl vat brand new.

cash or card on collection :thumb:

the buckets is the tallest one in this picture http://www.casone.it/my_prodo.php?cat=normale
