Can anybody suggest a good pump or tapping device for beer in 2 litre ex-water bottles, that won't disturb the sediment and is capable of being airtight enough to give the beer a day or two's life after opening? Syphoning gets a bit messy.

You can cold crash the bottles then transfer to new ones. Then most of the trub will be gone.
But if that is how you do it then after main fermentation, transfer to those bottles for secondary. Then after a week, add in 10 grams of sugar. You'll still get a little yeast but nothing you would notice.

I'm sure that I read somewhere on the Forum a suggestion that screw-cap bottles be carbonated and cold-crashed "upside down" so that the yeast falls into the cap.

After the beer has cleared (and whilst the bottle is still upside down) a quick open/close "tweak" on the cap will allow the pressurised beer to blow out the yeast. The bottle can then be stored upright and the beer served as normal.

If you wish to stop the beer going flat between servings the pressure can be maintained by using one of these pumps.

Thanks for the responses.

I did give upside down a bit of thought but had reservations about residual yeast around the mouth of the bottle, as well as the risk of losing half the beer down the sink.

I'll try it with a couple of bottles next time and see how it goes.
