The first time I syphoned a brew I got a gob full of beer. Unfortunately my brain told me this was petrol due to many years syphoning petrol between motorbikes as a kid and I spat the lot out, straight in to the secondary FV!

Luckily I managed to stop the flow, and wash out the FV.

Ha! Just did this exact thing this weekend!
It wasn't my first time, though - done it hundreds of times!
Luckily only wasted a few ml of beer but had to sterilise the vessel again.

Oh, and one of the lab techs at work once spat into an agar culture plate we use for sterility checking cell culture media. After three days there were some great bacterial growths. We had them analysed and there was some pretty horrific stuff in there. Not sure where her mouth had been!
