havent had a problem with this in my prev 3 coopers kits, had a stuck fermentation on my canadian blonde yesterday and i thought i would test the sg of my 'dasher the flasher' kit as it was sitting next to it, its mean to be 4.5%, no added sugar so just used the 2 kits they gave in the pack. the og was 1040 and tested it there and it was around 1018 makin it only 2.7% so it looks like that stuck aswell, i gave it a wee stir there, as it should ferment down to around 1006 for 4.5 %. it was due for bottling this friday after 2 weeks in the fv and i would have expected it to ferment quicker.

any advice/suggestions? will i check it maybe wed/thur and check if its dropped? is it likely to kick start after a wee stir?
cheers guys as always

Get it up to 20 - 22c and rouse the yeast once it's there (if it's not already) and think about adding a sachet of S04 if that doesn't work :thumb:

Hmm, on a slight tangent, I would not brew Coopers. They are just not great...

its at between 20-22 degrees just now.its still got a bit of foam on the top and a ring of gunge round the top of the waterline, ive gave it a stir as i said, just a waiting game now! its my xmas kit so im not in a hurry!

abeyptfc,

One thing to consider, did you use malt at all as a substitution for the sugar? if so I learnt recently that this will lower the final abv. So it may not be far off... but 2.7% is a little low ;)

hi bishop - the milestone kit contains 2 tins, one of 'barley malt extract' and the other is 'isomerised hop extract' and it comes with yeast.meant to be for 22.5 litres, made up to slightly over 20 ltrs. didnt add any other sugar at all just what they gave me. it says on the box abv 4.5% and in the instructions it says ur Og should be 1040, which it was, so I'm just wondering if they're tallking shug dite or the fermentation is stuck, I've gave it a stir last night and it think its dropped slightly, if nothing much is happeneing do you think it would be ok to pitch a yeast from one of my coopers draught kits I have?

cheers

not sure about pitching more yeast, may be worth reposting this or waiting on someonelse to advise... i've never had to do this so wouldn't want to guess. Have you already done it?
