Am redecorating a room that the previous owners used as a nursery so was covered in babyish wall paper.

Stripping the wallpaper is easy but much paint has come of with it. This means we have to strip the rest of the paint or it will look nasty if we paint over it as it is.

Can anyone recommend what the best way is of removing paint? :wha:

You could sand the edges to blend in or strip the lot using nitromorse paint stripper. :D

Thanks, tried sanding edges in another room and it still looked crap.... might have to do the paint stipper thing. Not keen on all those toxic nasties though!

try a steam stripper, sometimes it softens the paint so it can be peeled off but be warned whatever you do its going to be hard work :thumb:

A quick and easy way to achieve a perfect looking surface is:

1. fill any obvious holes and remove any obvious protusions
2. paper over with a decent lining paper, ensuring that butt joints are good.

That way, you will have a perfectly smooth and enduring surface ready for painting and re-painting. Much quicker and easier than removing paint from a wall. :thumb:

Uhuhuh uhuh uh uhuh you said "butt"

Thanks all. Hard work indeed!

Off to the hardware shop to get me some paint stripper...... or I could use some of that imperial porter I brewed in summer...

DONT use paint stripper on a pourus surface as it will soak in to the plaster and then no paint will stick to it
you will end up re plastering the room

From previous experience it'll never look perfect :(

If funds allow get it skimmed over with a decent plasterer, it might not cost as much as you thoght at the moment.
