oh and i also added 1kg of golden syrup to the fermenter before pitching the yeast

I would try leaving it alone for a few weeks then trying it again. I would think at that strength you want to give it at least 8 weeks to condition before it will start tasting anything like reasonable.

Did you boil the golden syrup? I did a brew with a honey addition and didn`t boil it and it tasted a bit funny - I was told its best to boil anything like this - dunno if it could be this though? I`ve since done a honey brew with boiled honey and it was lovely :D

Brambling Cross are the main source of flavour in my favourite ale - Legless Rambler from the Beachy Head micro brewery (winner of the Eastbourne festival 2010 so it ain't just me  )

Sorry for jumping in - just back from the Tiger Inn after imbibing said favourite ale.... :drunk:

Everything I drink just lately has an orrible earthy taste eddie, I'm not enjoying many beers, the odd one but not the majority.

& thats commercial beers as ell as my own.

UP

i had a tangy jaw pain every time i drank from my last batch, only had afew drinking from it, waited to see if it would loss it but i didnt, ended up just tipping it down the drain.

p.s how do you boil the honey ? water in a pan then add the honey or just honey in apan? but wouldnt that turen it into caramel like texture??

Well that was the original plan boil for 15 min but spoke to guy at LHBS he said just add to fermentor i think it may be just the yeast still in suspension giving it the odd taste if you have a god swig its not too bad but if you sip and sort of swill round you mouth you get the straw like taste very odd
