Last week I started a stout kit and instead of adding sugar I used 1kg of beerkit enhancer and 500g of DSM which took the SG up to 1054.

The kit was fermenting very well with a froth on top about 4 inches high. A few days ago I put the fermenter on the kitchen floor (tiled) and left it there for a few days. I have taken a hydrometer reading for the last two days and found that it has not moved from 1030. I am thinking that maybe I have killed the yeast because it was too cold on the floor, even though the fermenter was on a towel.

It it just a case of taking about a pint of the original brew, warming it up and adding a new yeast, then taking this and adding it to the brew or do you think it is beyond repair.

Thanks

Neil

Have you tried putting it back into the warmer place it started fermenting and see if it kickstarts? Other than that your suggestion may be worth a go, it's better than having to chuck a vat full of stout.

Try moving it into the warm and stirring the yeast up.

One issue with using BKE and Spray malt instead of sugar is that you will raise the finishing gravity. OK not to as high as 1.030, but it will finish higher than the instructions say (possibly 1.012-1.018).

So wake those yeasties up.

Thanks for the advice guys. I have given it a good stir and wrapped a quilt around it so hopefully that should do the trick. Failing that maybe a new yeast but its birthday time on friday so a heating tray might be on the cards !!.

Cheers

Neil
