Appoligies but not home brew but I had a bottle of chockolate stout from a micro brewery had it since christmas been sat in the garage though ill crack it open last night it was stored as per instructions cold but not fridged was on a concrete floor of the garage . I opened it and it erupted spewing froth all over me.
Any thoughts what may have caused this guys. It was as if it had been shaken up which it had not.
Regards

The problem will be with the brewery. Exactly the same issues that can occur for us - bottling too early, too much priming sugar (I am assuming it was bottle conditioned) or something like a wild yeast could have got into the beer.

I had a gusher on one of my own beers a couple of weeks ago. Given the rest have been fine I expect the bottle wasn't completely clean.

Thanks for the reply Dunfie. Yes it was bottled conditioned. Perhaps a polite e-mail and i may get a free bottle :D After all i only got half a bottle of the stuff.

Regards.

The last two bottles from my last lager batch were gushers. I believe it was because they got too much of the priming sugar solution.

I stopped buying bottle-conditioned brews from one of my local breweries because 50% of them were gushers, nice beer but I prefer it in the glass rather than over the floor
