I live in a flat so im abit pushed for space and the only place that has vertical space and i can fit a garage shelving in and i could put bottles on is in the boiler cupboard. and i dunno if its too warm to store wine/cider and wows?

I would guess that it would be too warm. Check the temp if you can, but you want to try and keep it below 20c if you can. Possibly your bedroom would be best if allowed.

Corked bottles are traditionally laid on their side to keep the corks wet, so they don't shrink.
Anything else can go upright, or any way you like.

But if the corks are waxed surly they will not dry out and shrink?

That's why I said "traditionally". (I did remember to say that didn't I?)
I dunno if the waxed ones shrink. It's easier to pick the bottle you want from a horz-store rack anyway

Are they best stored in the dark?

Generally, yes. If the bottle is colured it's not so important, but light can bleach colour out of your wine/beer/cider and possibly lead to generation of off-flavours.

Fair point  Storage space is a bit of an issue for me so tend to have to store wine upright.

Sorry for being dumb but what does a horz-store rack look like? I googled it (as I have storage issues!) and there wasn't anything wine rack like.

Thanks
