Storing DME

Ok, little question here, how well does DME and LME store over time. I have heard fresher is better...

Are we talking weeks, months, years?

I don't use LME cuz I'm AG but I store DME for making starters for months and months in a seal-able plastic container. No worries there. I think LME has more of a shorter shelf-life. Experts?
