Hi all,

My Festival Father Hooks bitter has been in the FV for 3 weeks now and I've just taken taken a hydrometer reading and was surprised to see it is still at 1014. The kit instructions say it should be at or below 1009 when finished. I guess it could still be fermenting but 1014 seems pretty high after 3 weeks, is it possible it has stopped and if so can it be restarted? The starting gravity was 1042 so looking at about 3.7% as it stands.

Thanks.

1014 is not an unreasonable ending gravity. My Festival Landlord only got down to 1012 and that was after a careful stir. If you are concerned you could carefully stir, being careful not to splash. You could try pitching a new sachet of yeast. Kits seem to be very skimpy with yeast. I'd rehydrate the yeast first.
