According to TV news tonight, many of the whisky distilleries are stockpiling malt ahead of the UK's departure from the EU.

"For" is that future supplies may be both scarce and expensive.

"Against" is that stockpiled malt can go off, go out of date, get damaged or get stolen.

Does anyone on the Forum think that it is worthwhile for us Home Brewers to build up a small stockpile?

I already have one. I broke my left proximate humerus at noon on Boxing Day (had I been ****** at the time I may have just banged my stupid head). The last order of 2018 may lie a few weeks yet in the garage.

Just as I was embracing the fusion of English malt with US hops.

As you know Brexit discussion is banned if this stays on topic fine I won't hold my breath.

Fair enough, TBH, Brexit nonsense is boring me half to death.

I suppose it depends how often you brew. I’ve got the malt in for my next brew and I’m going to do an order in the next couple of weeks which will include my three or four, which would take me well past the end of March. Then I’ll just react to the situation and if I can’t brew then I’ll cope. But it’s not as if malt isn’t produced in the UK

Before we banned discussion of Brexit, I asked the forum whether they thought malt and hop prices would go up. The general concensus was that prices for UK grown malt and hops wouldnt really have anything to do with brexit but more to do with how good or bad harvests were.
