Hi all,

Been looking at making my own stir plate as it seems easy enough but then I found in the cupboard an electric protein shake mixer. It's like a mini blender that you can charge with usb cable.

My question is would it be ok to use as yeast stirrer?

Couple of reasons why not:
1. It will damage the yeast.
2. It isn't designed to run for hours on end and will burn out.

Making your own is relatively cheap and easy.

As it's just after Christmas you may even have an old Quality Street plastic box to use as per one shown on the Forum.

When making your own Stirrer a few things to remember are:
1. Cheap stuff from China can take weeks to arrive. (My magnets took six weeks!)
2. Be generous with the room you require. (Which is why I very much liked the Quality Street box conversion.)
3. An old 12v battery makes an ideal power source. (I use two old ones from a disability scooter; they can both keep the stirrer sunning for 48 hours.)
4. If you go the 12v battery route you will need a Battery Charger.
5. Check out the writing on my own Stirrer. I nearly threw a Spinner Magnet into today's brew!

Enjoy
