Finally getting around to making my mag stirrer :thumb: Will be doing a "how to" on it as I build it.

Just after some ideas on the size stir bar I need for max 1ltr starters
I have full speed control so I can dial in just what I want
Also anybody you recommend in the UK :?:

I made a stir bar by inserting a small piece of metal inside some 3/16 pipe, melted both ends and sealed with pliers....
Works great :thumb:

Prior to this I'd lost 2 bought ones down the sink after forgetting to remove them from the conical... :(

Ideally you want to position your magnets about 2/3rd of the length of the stir bar apart. IE if your stir bar is 75mm long then you want the magnets 50mm apart. . . . It's worth playing with them to get the distance right before fixing them permanently . . . I have a really nice 75mm triangular stir bar that I cannot use with my stirrer as the magnets are in the wrong place (equal poles spaced correctly ) and send the bar bouncing around the flask. The cross shaped bars are good as well . . . if somewhat noisy . . . Dumb bell shaped stir bars are reported to be the least noisy

I get my stir bars from ebay Seller Baffcat

How long did you make it BB?
Mine is about an inch, I found that with a large magnetized stir bar it kept stopping the motor from turning.
I've got 1 magnet on the fan I got out of an hard drive. :thumb:
