As long as you get a healthy yeast growth then you have cracked it. If the yeast doesn't take or you have off flavours in the fermented wort then it obviously had a problem and you should start again. Personally I always boil my wort up for 5-10 minutes but that is because i am using frozen wort collected from a brew day and it is obviously not sterile.

I was thinking about that too. With this yeast being so expensive it would be pretty silly not to try and culture some of it when the primary fermentation is done.

Would pouring the slurry into a sterilised PET bottle and popping it into the fridge suffice for a starter used in, say, a month or 2? I wasn't sure if top cropping would be an option due to me not wanting to use it right there and then.
