I always struggle to get a slot of free time big enough to do a whole boil (plus the associated cleaning etc.) - and that's just extract brewing. So always looking for ways to make it a bit easier/quicker.

Is there any reason I couldn't do my grain steeping in advance of the boil and store the liquid for later? i.e. several hours.

Once the grain's out of the water the flavour should be fairly stable no? And if it's going in the boil later I'd guess it wouldn't be an infection risk? Sound oK?

no reason it won't work! you will have to cool it in the saucepan (assuming that's what you're using) and pour it into a sterilized bottle. 2L pop bottle should work fine. that'll just stop any mould growing...

To be honest though if you're just using crystal, just chuck some hot water over it and steep for 20 mins, i assume your water takes that long to heat up anyway.

if you're using less than 100g of black and nothing else, just chuck it straight in the boil!
