It looks like they can be used at any stage to get bitterness and no need to boil.

Im hoping Brewdog start using them, just so I can see Steam Punk beer on the shelves of Tesco

There is a new home brew table top machine that uses that’s being funded by Kickstarter. US based but it’s available internationally. Beermkr. Looks good for trial batches.
