Hi all,

Starting a new kit and was wondering when do you add the 1/2 of crushed campden tablet. Before you add the yeast or when your ready to add wort to the bottling bucket. I seem to see diffrent variations on the net so im a bit confused.

Also would you add it say to the water your going to use then wait 24hours.....

Any ideas Gerry :hmm:

hi add it to your water just before you mix with your kit it dose not need to be 24hrs.

Grand think ill start now then got a nice Brewmaker Pilsner Lager that i want to brew. Will let you all know how i get on this will be the second brew for the moment. Still waiting on the 1st and that will be ready hopefully for the bottling bucket on the 28th.

Well here goes.....G :thumb:

Hi remember to use your treated water in the kettle when your boiling hope all goes well

Never thought of that thanks, Will have to sterilise a few buckets here for the water nice one..G :drink:

Well all done at 1055, Just wait now for 10 days and then put it in a bottle bucket....hopefully all goes well. Done a few things wrong with the first batch i tried so this is the backup if the other batch is crap.....G

Question regarding bottles, can you use plastic2L cokecola bottles with the screw caps for the beer, moneys a bit tight now and i have a good few of these bottles lying around here....G :drunk:

Yes of course you can :thumb:
Many people do, the only draw back to 2L bottles is that you really need to pour the whole 2L in one go to stop the sediment mixing into the brew :hmm: :drink:

Is that a bit like 'the brewers knackers?' :?

No; that's what you get when SWMBO finds out she can't get any food in the freezer because it's full of hops. And when you take her on a day out, and just happen to pass a beer festival "accidentally".

Hi all,

My second brew died again after the first day, Have checked 2 days in a row and still about 1012 and no bubbles no life at all. I sterlised a paddle and wipped it around to see if this does anything. This has been on for 4 days in FV and went like the first one. Still has a nice tan look to it but ill see if stirring it up gets some life out of the yeast.

SG 1055 now reading 1012 looks like so ill leave it in there to see what happens have the hydro bobbing in there now so i can peek and see if anything happens.

Cheers ...G

Gerry an OG of 1.055 dropping to a FG of 1.012 is aprox 5.7%

What are you hoping it'll get down to as I'd say thats there :wha:

Hi Wez,

Well the hydro hasnt dropped i thought it had to drop to where it said bottle on it, If its finnished i'll keg it tomorrow when my other keg arrives. Just the fact it died the next day thats doing my tits in lol....G

Just another thought ive gone and stirred all the yeast up how long will it take to settle.....G

The initial vigorous fermentation only lasts for about 24hrs then it appears to die but in actual fact it's still quite busy.

I'd check that it's settled after 24hrs :thumb:

Man it get to you dont it.....

My beers aint ready yet, And the 2 FV's ive got on are fermenting. I have nothing to do as the new beer still hasnt arrived, all i can do is fiddle mae thumbs....lol
