As long as the ph is low it will continue to be effective.
Cloudiness is caused by hard water chemicals reacting with the acid which may or may not lower the ph to below-effective levels.

That was my thoughts BE. Thanks for clearing that up.

When I add Starsan to my tap water it goes cloudy, but when I tested it, it was below pH3 so I believe it is still OK. To be on the safe side I only use it in a spray bottle i.e. it only gets used once. I also have a big 5L bottle of Tesco Ashbeck water and a 2.5L bottle of deionised water, both made into Starsan solution. I reuse these. So far no problems, but not been brewing long enough to know for sure.

This stuff is the home brewers best friend

It goes cloudy when I make it with tap water but doesn't when i filter the water first in a brita filter. I still used it when cloudy anyway with no problems.
A bottle lasts ages too, I only make up about 6 liters for sanitising an fv and just swoosh it all round the sides.

Why, what's the recommended contact time?

As long as the surface stays wet for around 2 mins it should be fine, so I just coat the sides a couple of times and leave for 5 mins, saves making up 25 liters of the stuff to fill the fv. The foam makes it cling to the sides too.

Well, it arrived yesterday and the instructions recommend 1oz per 5 gallons.
By my rather poor knowledge of US imperial measurements, this works out to be just under 1.5ml per litre, correct?

I've diluted it to this amount but it does not foam when sprayed; is my maths wrong?

That's right Paul. 1.5ml per litre

Doesn't really foam when sprayed. Shake it up though and it'll foam like mad
