St. Peters Ruby Red - Stuck Brew?

Hello!

I have a St. Peter's Ruby Red on the go, but the damn thing seems to be stuck. This hasn't happened to me before.

Started it on Friday and swapped the yeast it came with for White Labs WLP005 British Ale yeast. I did notice that this hadn't quite mixed properly and quite a big blob did fall out into the wort - I don't know if that really makes a difference.

Anyway - took a hydrometer reading on Monday night - 1.022. Took another tonight = 1.022! It is supposed to drop below 1.014 as far as I know.

What shall I do? Do I just stir the thing up like billy-o and keep it warmish? I know WLP005 is supposed to be less attenuative than some other yeasts, but that seems just a bit too high for a final reading.

A little - up to about 18.5C in the day, and down to 16C at night, but I have a heat belt on it for the night. I might have accidentally left it on in the day too recently though. Do you think I have killed my yeast?
 
Hi P, I havnt used this yeast strain myself and I usually use S-04 but one thing Ive learned by accident is that just when you think its all over and your mind turns to bottling, "glug glug" the airlock can start to spew out C02 again. This happened recently when I got back from a trip abroad and thought I had an over due brew on my hands but I left it another week and the FG dropped nicely. I hope patience will bring your brew along. As for the brewbelt Ive found through my records that it actually prolonged fermentation and the conditioning period. Room temperature does it for me. maybe try to increase the temp, wrap some towels around it in the day time so it keeps its heat better at night, or get an aquarium heater and put it in a water bath or directly in your FV. Give it a gentle stir, dont whish it all around but just enough to rouse the reast. And lastly, time will be your savour :)
 
Thanks for the replies! Ah! I gave it a 'good' stir last night, with a cooking spoon, although this was a rapid stir that got everything moving round quite fast, I didn't change direction or churn it so I shouldn't have re-aerated it. That wouldn't be good!

I am going to take another reading at lunchtime today - 12 hours after the stir - and see what happens. If nothing is happening then should I perhaps add a small amount of spraymalt solution?
 
Can I ask if this ever got sorted out? I've got one on the go at the moment that appears to be stuck at 1.018 after just 16 hours.
 
Hi!

Sorry - been ill and off the forum for a bit. I opened the barrel on January 4th and it was very nice - in fact, just finished this week (although was beginning to start tasting a little stale by that point). It tasted nicely malty, but I would maybe have liked it to have dropped just another point or two on the finish.

Overall very pleased - a very tasty beer indeed! I hope everyone else was happy with it.
