Hi I'm a little confused I've got a st peters ruby red kit followed the instructions to the letter and it's supposed to be 4.3% I had a starting gravity of 1.040 and it was bubbling away quite well for about 10 days then left for ages in the primary I opened it last night to keg/ bottle and I've got a FG of 1.018 ? according to the site calculator that's only 2.9 % it doesn't taste sweet so I'm guessing it's finished but what could have gone wrong to give me this low abv? 1.4% is quite a big drop ?? Any ideas?
Thanks
ben

Kits rarely get as high as the advertised ABV.

1.018 is a little high, but should still be drinkable i think. See the 'how to' thread abotu stuck fermentations.

Mine stopped at 1016 from an original reading of 1040. Wasn't as strong as it said on the box but drinkable enough!
