As I couldn't brew yesterday due to unforeseen circs  I am now doing a split brewday.
As I have never done one before can somebody clarify the procedure please :thumb:
I am guessing that I just mash and sparge as normal, collecting the wort in the copper and boil with the hops and any other additions asap on the next day ?
Thanks in advance for your help :thumb:

that's exactly it :thumb:

my personal preference though is to put the wort in fermenter buckets and snap the lids on them instead of depending on the loose lid of the boiler. i dont want anything nasty crawling in

just make sure you do a mashout at 76'c to stabalise your fermentables though i've gotten away without a couple of times ;)

Thanks Stew :thumb:
As I'm using a plastic boiler it has a snap on lid
I didn't do a mash out, but I make sure that when I sparge the grain bed is 70C plus so that may have slowed any enzyme activity :wha:

Just for info it was
3.2 kg marris otter
250g caramalt
125g wheat malt
25g chocolate malt

Planed for 20 L at 1.040

Boiled today with
15g Magnum pellets for 90 min
20g styrians for 45 min
20g Styrians hot soak

Some pics, just because

The magnums and a couple of cones of styrians

It's just cooling now, got to be quick though it's 10.50 and I have to be at work at mid day

Nice one TS .. looking forward to the next episode :thumb:

Nice clean looking bitter wort :D

Makes a great backlight my front door

As an aside I got 21L @ 1.044

The yeast was the stuff I had earmarked for my Christmas beer, which was lifted from bottled Duvel, Should be interesting :drink:

The plan is to drop the 7% Christmas brew onto the yeast cake from this one

Dropped this to secondary today it's sat at 1.013 at the moment so it should drop another point or two.
I've also gone with 5g of Bobek Dry hops, never tried Bobek before will it compliment the Styrians? :hmm:

They are supposed to be very similar to Styrians but my experience is that they are not a close match, more subtle, I would imagine that they will work well together though.

Kegged this one today, it had dropped to 1.012 so 4.2% abv, that'll do
As it was already clear(ish) it was force carbed and a pint drawn for QC purposes
It'll do :drink:

In fact it's so sodding nice I've buried it under a pile of crap in the garage to stop me from drinking it

Here it is
