So when you guys are not drinking your beer, ale, cider and wine.
What spirits do you like to drink?

At the moment I'm partial to a southern comfort :)

i only ever drink spirits when im up at my caravan, usually have sailor jerry and coke or makers mark with apple juice mmmmm could go one the now!

Southern Comfort & coke for me. I got a bottle of a special cherry blend for my birthday. I'm a massive cherry coke fan so it's going down a treat :D

There is only one spirit for me an Islay malt the more TCP the better

I've never even seen a bottle, never mind tried it. Haha
But at 43% it can't be a bad drop ;)

Islay malts are probably the more challenging of the malts. They tend to be quite peaty and phenolic and in the extreme a bit like TCP    . Lagavulan is one of the more extremes, unfortunately it is one of the more expensive ones never on offer in the supermarkets at christmas so i rarely drink it but i think I will treat myself this christmas.

£45 a bottle, not bad considering :)

No I suppose not but you can usually get Talisker or laphroaig for under £30.

And before anyone says talisker is from Skye I know but is similar to an Islay and very enjoyable.

More of a Speyside or Highland man myself, I find the Islays a bit to extreme for me.

Not a speyside man but I don't mind some of the highland malts. Having said that I think I have a bottle of Macallan in the cupboard.

Just remembered I like Cardhu the bottles are great as well I have got some of my old port stored in cardhu bottles. Remeber drinking it in the Applescross Hotel wester ross, and the kind lady behind the bar tipped the rest of the bottle in my glass because it wasn't worth keeping

I could probably list a dozen or so I really like, never tried Cardhu, one to look out for. Macallan has a great reputation, and I have 2 bottles in the cupboard, but I've always found it a bit ordinary. My farther in law has had the pleasure of sampling some of the Macallan's more vintage offerings in their boardroom an unforgettably experience.

Well I'm a highland and Island fan (as people know) . . . The Airport had some pretty ordinary Islay malts this year (Apart from a '93 Caol Isla for 110 quid . . . but I already have the '83 offering so passed) . . . So I treated myself to a 16YO Scapa.

Coming back I was treated to a tasting of a blended whisky that was on offer . . . Johnnie Walker Double Black . . . very smoky and peaty . . . Island Like . . . and the Black Label is somewhat Highland like . . . So for once I added those into my basket . . . I was pleasantly surprised, blends normally leave me pretty cold.

As for Speysides I have a Tamnavullin, and an Auchentoshan lowland, which are nice for when I don't want a really heavy malt.

Mmmmm malt whisky...where to start? I love Laphroaig (especially the quarter cask with just a dash of cold water) yum! I really like Macallan too, and a big fan of Jura (its a little too drinkable, if you know what I mean?) but I'd have to say that my favourite malt is Bowmore - it really is the best Islay by far for me, seaweed, peat and TCP (but not too much) hints of heathery sort of aromas - Marvellous, just marvellous! :)
