That said evangelist pot smokers do my nut when they claim it has no harmful effects. They're are plenty, but in balance I still think society would be better of with it legal.

The main harmful effect is that it turns the "evangelist pot smokers" into boring bar stewards! Seems like weed is all they ever talk about!

I've never got the argument about cannabis being a gateway drug, most people will try alcohol before they try it, does that make alcohol the gateway?

I used to smoke cannabis years ago but only occasionally and was a heavy smoker at the time if cannabis is as addictive as some would have us believe and a gateway drug how did i manage to only smoke it occasionally something i couldn't do with the cigarettes.

Prohibition of alcohol not only didn't work in America, it led to a huge growth in the power and popularity of organised crime. The same thing is happening with drugs in most of the world - people glorify criminals due their association with and wealth from the drug trade.

I say legalise all drugs for adults, with stricter penalties for allowing children access to drugs (including alcohol.) Our State government here is about to take the first step - legalising "medical marijuana," but this will have little to no effect on the flow on to other drug use.

I admit I did smoke marijuana when young, but found chronic use causes depression. I'm just plain too old for harder drugs, I even have to control my drinking!

My main reason to vote yes was its virtually legal anyway even medium scale growers don't go to prison on a 1st offence. Also I think the government spends to much paying people to think about these things and i'd prefer to have them interfer with thing less in general.
I went mad for it for about 6 months half my life ago then just didn't like it anymore.

if they legalised it people would grow their own I think, just like homebrewers brew their own.
Wouldn't Bea bad idea.Lets face it how many home-brewers do you see running about pissed as a fart causing mayhem or selling their beer,no instead they're at home forever trying to master their brew for their own reward.

I smoked some canabis recently and REALLY didn't enjoy it, whereas my buddy is permanently stoned, but there again it is for serious medicinal use

I used to smoke a lot of it when I was younger and so did most of my friends. The problem with cannabis is that it is habit forming rather than addictive. If you start smoking it more regularly it is very hard to cut back as you get used to the effects and bored without it. The other problem with it that I saw and identified over 20 years ago is that if you have any underlying mental health issues it will bring them to the surface. I know loads of people who had cannabis induced mental and nerous breakdowns and I had my fair share of problems including anxiety attacks and depression. Thre is no dount that cannabis was the catalyst for us in bringing these problems to the surface. Fur us it was only really bad for us but it has now also been proven that it can cause schizophrenia to manifest in people who would otherwise have not had any symptoms. This in turn has lead to murder but these people.

So my opinion is that it is a dangerous drug, but on the other hand it is so widely available and used that the law is not working in preventing it being used.BY legalising it and controlling it, it would make a lot of people who are currently breaking the law be able to come back within it. Education would also need to be improved on the dangers of cannabis use. Maybe the money made on tax could be used to fund the police to tackle crime.

You could say the same about alcohol most of us have a drink and enjoy it some may become alcoholics and ruin their health and lives do we ban alcohol?

I think legalising cannabis is the way forward. It's so easy to get if you want it and some of the stories I've been hearing about kidnapping children to grow it are really heartbreaking. You wouldn't get that if it was legal. It's no different to drink when you think about the social effects. Many people use it without a problem, a minority suffer badly from the effects. The fact it's illegal doesn't stop people using it. It just creates crime. Spice is a direct result of weed being illegal and that stuff seems really dangerous.
