Has anyone tried feeding the spent malt left over from mashing to their chickens? I have heard of it being used as animal feed.

My allotment neighbour has Chucks, they love it.

He gives me eggs, i give him grains.

My mate get's all my grain for his chickens and I get some eggs in return. They go mad for it.
What a great idea ;) My mates just got 6 chickens..and I'm buying his eggs at the moment  ..I feel a trade off on the horizon :thumb:
tell him you only want the double yolkers ;)

My horse gets the spent grain . . . . I get nothing in return . . . . . Well nothing I want

i keep on getting told its the best feed going, makes sense because normal barley is used as feed and spent grains is sugar barley and sugar barley has to be better than starchy barley to eat. I couldnt eat it though, more of a coco pops man. i know breconshire brewery's spent grains get fed to prince charlses cattle. in a book i have read about brewing it says that chickens give larger than average eggs, is this true? sounds good. maybe stout grains will give black eggs :)

My home spent grains go to my neighbour in exchange for eggs. The chickens love it, although it's best not to feed them exclusively on grains. The yolks are a lot better when they're fed with green stuff.

From the other brewery, it alternates between going to an animal feed company round the corner, or to a smallholder in exchange for some meat come slaughter time. yum.

I give mine to the pig man who also takes all my waste wood from my framing workshop and all the sawdust from the joinery business next door. Nice sausages though
