So you would be happy to use that as an excuse when caught speeding?
Well, I certainly didn't cry 'it's not my fault - WAH! ' - I look at it from the facts to reach a conclusion to try and avoid a repeat.
Of course it is down to me, although I have a nagging doubt that something wasn't right about the whole thing.
I know I have short term memory issues - Fact. Too much HB?
and yes the sat-nav is a useful aid although it too has issues as it's not always accurate (but rather its a judgement call about whether to use its info at any given time.)
The road did not look like a 30mph (no street lights) road out of caernarvon heading south - Fact.
I did some google earthing to see if there was a sign and there wasn't but the sat nav said 40. As I type this i wonder was the satnav actually right? but gently returning to the thread's topic
technology should be used as an aid and understood it isn't perfect, so I'm happy for speed aware technology to assist BUT I want the freedom to make the judgement call.
As an example mrs DOJ new car has crash detection avoidance and she gets a warning beep on a certain curved road on her way into work because there is a parked car which the tech thinks she might hit it. It measures steering wheel angle verses what the 'radar' & camera see. now it is annoying as hell when it goes of but it doesn't know that the wheel is going to turn a few 10ths of a second later. We don't turn
that system off because the false alarm beep is a small price to pay for the extra protection it gives.
as for lane departure control, for that to work assumes readable lines on the road so only useful to guard against nodding off on motorways. (imo)
So glad to have the tech fitted but do not want its permanent use made mandatory and do not want any overide option to make driving LESS safe than driving a car without the tech.
