specific fridges for corny kegs

I would like to know any specific models/makes of fridges suitable to hold corny kegs with as little alterations made to them as possible?
I purchased one from a friend but its a pretty new one and has a very large moulded freezer section making it impossible to convert.

Best thing you can do is to take the measurements of the corny kegs you have or intend to buy and take a run to Curry's or if purchasing second hand take a look online and you'll get the stats from the manufacturer and allow you to determine from there.

My old one broke so bought a cheap one https://ao.com/product/mtl55242-fridgemaster-fridge-white-69801-30.aspx

Easy to convert, got a CO2 pipe through the drip hole at the back and drilled through the front for shanks. Made a stand for the kegs to sit on. Plus a few bits of wood on the front to attach the drip tray. I’m not great at DIY but this was a nice easy job. I’ll post pics when I work out how to do it! Just to add for CO2 I went from 3/8 to 3/16 with JG reducer to get through the drip hole

If you are interested in a keezer I used the Fridgemaster MCF194 (the mcf139 will only fit one, unless you buy the new kegs that are just 215mm wide and then should fit two and a smaller gas bottle) the MCF194 fits 2 well plus a 10litre gas bottle (6kg of gas) , plus a fermentation bucket or a cask on the shelf.

It looks like it could fit a 3rd keg if I put the gas outside, but not got one to try. Would def fit a 9 or 12 litre corny on the shelf where the bucket can go. But for now 2 taps is plenty and I want to find use for my handpull, hence the cask plan (and also making lagers too in time).

Just a temp set up above, will be moved when the unit is completed. It is quiet, and appears cheap to run - should be about £18 a year from initial maths - many 2nd hand fridges or freezers can cost over £60 a year to run.

Cost £189 delivered, but have seen it go as low as £159. I really rate ao.com as a company.

Right, done measuring and fiddling, and it seems that my freezer will certainly fit 3 19lt corny kegs (standard 2nd hand size ones) plus a standard plastic keg/cask on the shelf (well that is an assumption as it fits a standard fermentation bucket on the shelf. If your gas is less that 46cm tall it will also fit on the shelf, but my 10litre/6kg gas bottle can't fit in with 3 kegs. But will just run a hole in the lid for gas, the beer lines I use are so thin I can run them through the magnetic door seal, with some electrical tape to help seal.

Really happy with the set up, plus expecting the electric usage to get even lower in winter as it is in my shed.

When I was shopping for one, I drew around a corny onto some cardboard, cut 2 out, and went around all of the under counter fridges in currys - none were big enough.

I think the problem is newer fridges have more insulation for better efficiency, which reduces the space inside for kegs. I ended up buying an old hotpoint ice diamond fridge off ebay for £20 that fits 2 cornys, with the gas bottle on the step at the back.

30 quid off gumtree. Fits 4 kegs.all my lines at 2.4m perlune. Gas tank too.
3 on tap at a time. Best value I've found.

I've got the Tall Indesit Larder Fridge and easily get 4 Cornys in. Had to build a wooden shelf inside to hold the top 2 kegs

If you can get a tall fridge you can get four 19l kegs and two 12l. And plenty of storage for yeast underneath.

I picked up a 2nd hand chest freezer for £40. Looks a bit like yours, takes two kegs, the CO2 regulator and pipework. I measured it to make sure the kegs will fit. Its quite old but works ok. I haven't drilled any holes. I use a party tap so it's a little bit of a pain to use.

Do bare in mind when you are putting these together, the engery use. Electric is cheap in the USofA but pretty pricey here in the UK - and likely to increase.

You might get an old chest freezer or fridge for free or cheap, but try to find out what it will cost a year to run.

A modern A* chest freezer will cost between £15 and £30 a year to run, depending on temp settings and where you have it. An old fridge or freezer can cost from £60 to £120+ to run, so in just 2 or 3 years, and energy efficient one can pay for itself. Collars and other changes can really affect their efficiency.

Anyway, something to consider, esp if it will sit in a hot summer house or in the living room etc

I assume you still have this keezer? How is it going? I'm thinking of using the same model

If it's not too much trouble, please could you check the internal dimensions? I'd like to model out what I could fit in there.

75cm by 39.5cm - obvs with a hump. I don't have a collar but keep the gas inside. With the gas outside I'm pretty certain it would fit 3 without a collar, and 4 if you place one on the hump and fit a collar, unless you used a 9 or 11lt keg. The hump takes my brew bucket for cold crashing and that is wider than a corny.

It does the job and keeps the temp I want it to, is quiet, and doesn't seem to kick in too often. And with my 2 keg and gas set there is loads of room for bottles, wine, fridge overflow and the bacon I've started making.


I also have the smaller one as a proper chest freezer and that is great. Temp is - 28 to - 40 and plenty of room for a family of four (our kitchen freezer isn't that large).

Seems good and haven't noticed my energy use increase much.
