Hi Folks, I've having some issues figuring out sparging. Now normally it's not much of an issue for me since I'm using a grainfather and just do what it tells me to. However, I'm going to be trying a partigyle brew so will be futzing with the sparge volumes.
For those of you who mash and sparge more conventionally, how do you decide on your volumes? From what I've read approx 3 L/kg is an average mash thickness, then do you just sparge until you've hit your boil volume or do you measure the s.g. of the runnings until they get too low? I guess the latter only works for continuous sparging.
Sources conflict on volumes for batch sparging, it ranges from equal to strike water to double it.
Trying to get my head round this so I can make more informed decisions on my partigyle volumes.
