Hi all,

I have 2 jars of tesco finest ginger & treacle preserve. 340g each, with 60.5g of suger per 100g. I make this 205.7g sugar per jar, or 411.4 together.

I'm getting a tad bored of making wines, so I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for something beery I could make with them? I don't have any beermaking equipment per se (other than a 5 gallon plastic 'pressure barrel'), but plenty of winemaking stuff (DJs and the like).

I don't really fancy buying too much in terms of ingredients or equipment and I don't mind just making 1 gallon of something or other.

Any suggestions at all would be fab.

I wouldn't put them in together but I have had a rather nice Lemon and Ginger wheat beer before. You could think about adding the ginger to boil of a Hefe in the same way as the Belgians add corriander and orange peel.

The treacle can be added like any sugar but it would probably work quite well in a Russian Imperial Stout or a Baltic Porter.

They are together - it's a Ginger & Treacle Preserve. Well, it's a ginger preserve that has treacle in it.

Whoops - didn't read that one properly. I got carried away with the chance to make the lemon and ginger wheat beer.
