Hi all,

A quick question about the sodastream bottle to S30 adapter (which I bought from CO2 supermarket here but can be had elsewhere)

In this YouTube video, the guy demonstrates how you can give a quick burst of CO2 (e.g. for purging bottles and headspaces) by twisting the adapter onto the sodastream bottle.

However, no matter what I do, I can't get the sodastream bottle to give off a quick burst by twisting the adapter. In fact, it won't turn at all as it seems to be screwed all the way on without giving off any gas. You have to plunge the adapter onto an s30 valve and it then releases gas through the central pin.

I'm pretty sure I have the same adapter - looks the same and bought from the same place, so am I doing something wrong? Really want to use the bottle with adapter to purge bottles as that would be really useful.

Thanks

If I remember correctly, there was a thread that another member posted and the fix was that a screw on the S30 adaptor had to be adjusted in or out, I'll see if I can find it for you.

EDIT... I've looked but I think the problem was with a pin valve so different to yours.

That would be great. I'll have a look myself too

Sure. If you look at the back there is a small screw fitting. So by loosening that the pointed valve head that releases the gas is less protruding. So basically you adjust it so the cylinder makes a seal just before opening the cylinder. So if you loosen it too much when the regulator and cylinder are attached no gas will flow. So by trial and error you tighten it a bit at a time until gas is release. Either au at this point it wills quiet gas so you have to tighten it quick See photo
This is the one I was thinking of, don't know if you have the same fitting that the adaptor goes onto? Click on the arrow up next to 'Bez said' for pictures etc

I think that's a different adapter but thanks for taking the effort to find it
No problem, I'm furloughed so it's nice to do something helpful, hope you find the answer you need, I have a 6.35Kg bottle for my kegerator, so never used a sodastream bottle.

I have one, mine has two o rings in the adapter. If you use both it works as an s30 bottle does, if you use one you can twist to give a blast as you say. Yours might be the same?

Is yours the same in the links I gave? Mine came with one O ring but luckily I bought 2 spare. I did think whether using another O ring would solve it, but they are quite thick and I struggled to get a second inside the thread of the adapter. It also seemed to push the pin further down so that you wouldn't be able to attach some tube to the end like he does in the YT video. I will try again later and take some pictures so that people can see what I'm actually talking about!

Yes mine is the same. Although for mine I have to use two to use to pressurise kegs, if I use one I don't get a good enough seal so when I push the pin down the gas comes out the side of the adapter. If you are already only using one o ring I can't see how you can use it by twisting unless the other spare o rings are thinner than the installed one?
