Got a boat load of pint magners and bulmers bottles from a mate.
Filled a large bucket (one of those big rubber jobbies people use to stand their FVs in) with warm water and two cups of Daz.
Batch 1 (about 40) I left to soak for an hour and most of the labels pulled off fairly well but the foil around the necks was a bit of a a scratting job. (2 1/2hours)
Batch 2 (about 60) I left overnight in the same water. Came home from work (about 20 hours after soaking) and the labels and foil just slipped off (15 minutes)
Batch 3 (about another 30) will leave overnight as with batch 2.
Even though the water is only air temp the labels and foils fly off no more scratting!!!
Plan to re soak all the bottles in hot water to get any residual glue off and then sterilise, all nice and ready for stock piling the autumn/winter brews.

Just to be clear is that Daz as in the washing powder? That sounds like a neat trick, I have a local pub who gives me a load of bottles as and when I need. I find the stella cidre bottles labels come off no bother with a soaking in water but the bulmers cider ones can be a PITA...I will give this a try next time and see how I get on cheers :thumb:

Don't worry about that I'll be using my pink frilly marigolds anyhow
Nice to know I'm not the only brewer with pink gloves. For some reason, the only large ones in the shop were pink and the smaller ones were yellow. Must be something about these strange Yorkshire women.

Useful thread, thanks. As with so many aspects of homebrew, patience is a virtue! I usually only wait an hour or two and then have to do all the scratting, which is a right pain.

Ive found magners labels much easier than bulmers, when doing a quick hot water and fairy liquid delabelling job. I work in a label production and printing company. There are many different adhesives used for many different clients.

Why so many adhesives? Do some clients demand labels that stay on better than others?
Some labels have to withstand freezing temps, some have adhesive that allows you to easily peel off the label and restick it. We print labels for the food industry ,including butchery, bakery, as on packets of rolls etc. Also the pharma/medicine labels. Waterproof and water washible labels, so many different adhesives used. :thumb:

I am wondering if the bulmers labels are the major factor rather than the Daz.
I chucked two St Peters bottles and a Ossett Brewery Treacle Stout bttle in with the last batch of bottles and they were stuck solid.
The water was three days old and only air temp so maybe if it had been hot they would have shifted???
