This Thread is beginning to remind me of the old tale about the woman with a dozen kids.

The neighbour asked her why she had so many kids and she said "It's because I'm partially deaf."

"Partially deaf?", said the neighbour, "How can being partially deaf make you have kids?"

"Well," replied the woman "whenever I'm nodding off in bed and my feller asks 'Are we going to sleep tonight or what?' I always reply 'What?'"

I'm very sensitive to noise while falling asleep, once I'm out I'm dead to the world though. Only time my wife snores is when she's in the last month or so of pregnancy, both times I've slept in the spare room, which also suited her fine as meant she could sprawl in the double bed.

I snore now and then but when I do I apparently sound like a blocked drain (sometimes worries me that I have sleep apnia), I sleep so deeply that I never remember getting kicked a bunch until I roll off my back, fotunatly I've also very difficult to bruise...

SWMBO used to walk to town and work every day until she started to find it a struggle and stopped walking to town, I noticed she seemed to hold here breath occasionally when asleep (long pause between snores) but I didn't think anything of it, she then went to see the doctor and he said she may have SA, they gave here the machine and after a few days she went back to have the data analised and it turned out her breathing stopped many times per hour, she is much better now thanks to the machine.

My missus used to worry about me. I'd stop breathing for ages when I was asleep. For a long time I laughed it off.
When I got tested they reckoned I stopped breathing nearly 40 times an hour.
Now I'm down to less than one.
She insisted I went and got tested. Apparently the relief your body gets from a CPAP machine could help you live years longer.
That'll learn her. She should have left me be. She'd have got the inheritance sooner.:laugh8:

SWMBO was higher than 40 (cannot remember the exact number) she has only got down to 12 and
struggles to keep the machine on when asleep, i tried it and i think it would take a bit of getting used to.

Wow, still 12. If I were her I'd go back and see if they can do anything to get it down further.
I know there are different levels of CPAP machines. I have the auto one that adjusts while I'm sleeping.
When I was tested the doctor I went to said people either love the CPAP or hate it.
I'm one of the ones who has no trouble falling asleep with the mask. Obviously I'd rather not use but the health benefits are huge.

Same here.wife snores like a train.we sleep in separate rooms now due to her having a spine operation. We had to put a bed in the front room for her as she couldnt do stairs..
Been like that for a year now.. its nice and quiet in my bedroom now. Trouble is I still dont sleep.

I didn't know some machines are automatic this one definitly isn't, I will tell here to ask about them next time she goes to see them.

She really doesn't get on with the full face mask you can get different versions one of which only goes over your nose she asked if she could try one but they only have the full ones here.

I'm the snorer in our household at one point I was really bad but luckily I discovered I'm able to prevent it by exercising.
I'm a keen(ish) runner and as long as I don't slacken off then I don't snore but periods where I have slacked off my weight goes up and snoring returns.

I suggest that you take a really good look at the NHS Choices here ...

https://www.nhs.uk/search?collection=nhs-meta&query=choices

You may not find what you are looking for but there may very well be a choice that your Doctor doesn't want to tell you about because it will cost his practice money.

In my case, the Doctor told me "The NHS is like a garage. It will let you have a car but only a Mini, even if there are other options available." so I went back to him with a print-out of the relevant area I wished to dispute.

As a result, I was referred to one of the best knee surgeons in the UK and the fact that he practiced in a hospital about 80 miles away from where I lived was not relevant under the "NHS Choices" programme.

I go in for a new hip in a couple of weeks (flu, coronavisus, poor funding and lack of beds permitting) and my new GP (I've moved house since I had my knees done) wasn't aware that I could request going to a different hospital than the one he was suggesting. (The one he was suggesting is under "special measures"!)

I hope your lass gets the right mask; but it may take some time to establish that she is entitled to it.

I think I hold my breath when inam drifting off to sleep. Sometimes I feel myself doing it, others I wake coughing

I’m tempted to try the white noise thing, anyone ever given that a go?

When I was snoring I just laughed when my partner mentioned it.
Now I have had the sleep test and have a CPAP machine I realise what an awful pressure (if that's the right word?) it was putting on my body.
I was tired. Blood pressure was always an issue even with medication. Mostly I'm in a better mood.
Although this week with the bunch of morons I've had to put up with in work I'm at breaking point.
Still Friday and finished work, although some bonehead mucked the roster up, so the boss has asked another favour. I'm working tomorrow.
But the roster was stuffed so badly when he took a couple of days off he's had to come in too.

IF YOU SNORE, DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR AND GET CHECKED.
Especially as you lot seem to get it on the NHS. I had to pay for my machine.
