Well I have just had a sneaky taste of the Smugglers Ale its been carbonating for 2 weeks and I have to say its fantastic , quite a heavy taste but nice , I´m sure it will mellow with age . All in all a successful brew .
Got 23 lt of Woodfords SunDew carbonating at the monment and will have a sneak taste next week.
KEEP ON BREWING

Hope your sundew turns out better than mine did, still have 20 bottles in my garage after 8 months. :yuk:

Yup, I even did three different ones from the kit, one with Saaz one with willametta and one standard.

All meh

Well Ive just tried a Sundew after a week and a bit in the cool and it hasn't carbonated at all but tastes ok if you like flat beer lol, I have 5 lts in a mini keg so when its sat another couple of weeks I try that.

One of the oldtimers at my brew guild advised me to always make 20 litres from a 23 liter kit. Less chance of a watery drink, better odds for the yeast and less chance of blow-outs.

WOODFORDES SMUGGLERS ALE A FANTASTIC PINT 5.1% ABV

I'd love to try one of those again, Smugglers was definately the best non-hopped kit when I started brewing. I wonder if it'd taste as good now 7 years later? I recently did their Old Conkerwood and was quite disappointed.

The Smugglers just got better and better the longer I left it, so try to leave a few to drink in 3 months time.

I did have 18 bottles left but tried one last night and was it was rank, not off just nasty, put rest down the sink today. Put me off buying another woodfordes kit I'm afraid.

There is something wrong with Sundew, I have done 2 batches and both were awful, not off as you say. Others on here have experienced the same.

Others in the Woodforde's range such as Wherry and Admiral's Reserve are fine.

Did u use bottled or treated water?
Its just my tap water can destroy light beers
Ive realised now i get much better results with darker beers which aint a problem for preference this time of year
