Hi I am posting to ask about slow fermentation. On the 10th january (7 days ago) I brewed a Coopers Dark Ale OG 1038 It is now sitting in my kitchen with a heating belt around it and it is only at 1014 and bubbling approx once per minute. Any ideas or suggestions or is this normal? Thank you

Hi, 7 days isn't a slow fermentation at all. you want to leave it at least 10 to 14 days , sounds like it's going fine to me. Once your hydrometer readings have been constant for 2 or 3 days then it's time to bottle or keg. :thumb:
Erl :drink:

I have a coopers dark ale that i'll maybe get into an fv at the week end, with brew enhancer and i would hope for a higher og, as i like a strong pint :wha:

I have that dark one too, hope to get it going on Monday, have to barrel the previous brew first. Will use 50/50 sugar and medium spray malt.

Kitchen temps will probably drop away during night unless heating on, the belt will help maintain temp but if it starts to get cool in there it would struggle to heat the brew. But slowly does it and it won't come to any harm, keep an eye on hydrometer readings as above :thumb:

I posted my last post regardes slow fermentation on the 18th (when my brew reading was 1014) Now 4 days later and with the heating belt on my hydrometer reading is still 1014. Is this normal? Is there anything I can or indeed should do to get it down further or do I just keg now? OG was 1038 now 1014. What now leave in the FV for say 2 weeks then into the keg adding say 110g sugar? What then sort of % should I end up with?

Sounds like its finished.1038-1014 will give you 3.2%ABV. What did the tin say? If your OG measurement was off (e.g. you didn't mix it very well or your wort sample was warmer than your hydrometer is calibrated to) you may actually get closer to the suggested ABV. Either way, sounds like its done.

You might consider leaving it a bit longer to clear but kegging needn't be too far away.

I have a tin of this and i cant find any abv on it or in the instructions. I was going to brew mine with coopers enhancer, and i would certainly want at least 4.5 abv. I will try and find out the expected abv.

I read through the reviews on this beer in the review section, and 4.7 was the result for one guy as spraymalt was also added. Ive some spraymalt ordered so i'll hold off brewing this one until next weekend
