I've been without base malt for a while now as my usual supplier has been out, so I reached out to Skinners brewery in Truro just down the road from me, and I'm now 25kg of pale malt better off. So looks like I'll be busy getting a few brews on this weekend, possibly a Lushinton clone ... Cheers Skinners acheers.

Nice! I think mentioned this but I always go into the olde ale house every time I'm in truro. Last time I was there, there was a little beer festival on. So I was drinking some sort of 6% stout. The bus ride back to newquay was a bit of a blur :laugh8:

Not sure if you know, but the brewery which is a few mins walk from the old ale house has a really cool 'old world' ale house style bar where you can try out there brews, also take a flagon or two away for the (even blurrier) bus ride back to Newquay athumb..

Didnt know that. Will go in there next time Im in truro

We're lucky to have Skinners and St Austell near us, both good breweries! Where do you get your malt from normally if you don't mind me asking? Have you ever been to that homebrew shop in Camborne? Had a look through the window yesterday, never seems to be open when i'm there!

Had a lovely brewery visit when I was in Truro many years ago. Don't know how I made it back to the camp site. Apart from that, I've always found Skinners beers rather sweet. Perhaps they use a low attenuating yeast.

@Portreath that actually a good idea for buying a sack of malt so you dont incur shipping charges. I have a micro not too from me, Brick Brewery. Did you email them or go into the brewery to ask
Sorry going off topic but I find there Peckham IPA dangerously easy to drink for its 6.5% one of my favourite keg beers, what there other beers like?

I opened the malt sack and WHAM! the malt aroma was intense, utterly fantastic, and nothing like the 25kg I was getting from another local micro brewery. It's almost like a massive mug or Horlicks. Anyway, I'm just about to get a boil on for brew#2 in a mo. The bag of malt is Muntons branded, however I believe Skinners buy local Cornish barley and send it away for malting. Maybe that's why beers like Lushingtons and Porthleven do have a slight sweetness, which for me is why I'm a big fan of Skinners' beers.
I've not been to the Camborne shop since the late 90's, from all accounts it's still there. Granite rock micro brewery in Falmouth have a great section, and they will order a 25kg of malt if you ask nicely athumb..

I do like Skinners ales, good to hear they’ll help out a brewer in need too.

Will be good to hear how these brews turn out too, there any Cornish Hop growers? You could do yourself a proper local brew.
