Simply Beer Kits http://www.simplybeerkits.co.uk/

Anyone tried these yet? :hmm:

They come in a pouch, looks similar packaging to the Better Brew range.

I noticed them on the brewuk website special price £9.98 reduced from £12.96, appears to be an introductory offer.

"By using a pouch enables us to use less packaging materials and helps reduce cost by up to two thirds"

looking at their website , they've also cut costs there!

What were Ritchie's kit brands before? They didn't market just as Ritchies did they?

As far as I can see from their website Ritchies produced/marketed these beer kits, Barons Beer, Burton bridge, Cordon Brew and Samson Beer.

This is what they say about the Simply Beer Kits........

Each Simply Beer Kit has been crafted with the help and expertise of our dedicated team of master brewers. Each kit uses a blend of high quality malt extracts from numerous producers from around the world, with the addition of genuine brewer's yeast used in each and every Simply Beer Kit has helped us achieve our goal in creating a range of kits that is truly outstanding when it comes to quality, taste and value.

The Simply range uses the latest advances in technology and packaging. Each Simply pouch is 'cold filled' with liquid malt extract as opposed to the traditional 'hot filled' canning method, by doing so makes for a final fresher tasting beer. By using a pouch enables us to use less packaging materials and helps reduce cost by up to two thirds, allowing us to invest more into higher quality ingredients

So it looks as if beer kits in pouches is the way forward :?: :hmm:

I think they might well be.

The Better Brew one that I'm drinking currently is really good, the IPA that I bottled today is really really good (even SWMBO *AND* the mother in law said it was lovely...straight from the FV!), I'm guessing that home brewing from kits has started to reach the mass market and so they can sell in a premium product for those who don't want to go grain but want a better pint.

I reckon that these will be made by the same factory that's making the Hambleton Bard Better Brew ones, the blurb sounds identical, the bags look pretty similar and the range isn't too different either.

Just started fermenting the lager kit today. Ill let you know how it tastes

I've liked the idea of these kits, having just bought a Barons one (because there was more information on them).

Personally I am still disappointed that you have to add beer enhancer or brewing sugar, I know that reducing the volume allows them to ship for a reasonable cost, but is it he best way to go.

My idea from several years ago was to produce a double strength wort packaged in a 10L jerry can, which the 'brewer' diluted down to the required gravity with dechlorinated water, before adding yeast. The only real issue was the shipping costs of around 12Kg of wort, there were some people interested in distributing them, and I suspect I could do it small scale, with the current kit, but ultimately I would need a unit and a 2.5BBL plant to do it properly . . . and with that comes all the hassles of pro brewing apart from dealing with HMCE (And the cask/keg issue). It is still an avenue I might consider going down though.

ive bought the pale ale one, will probably make up a hoppy tea and turn it into a hoppy pale ale. might brew it tomorrow when i get home from work. just a note for anyone buying it, the sachet of yeast is glued to the underside of the pouch, just check before buying/when delivered that its not been pinched or has not fallen off before you go to brew!

if it is anything like the one I had be careful when you remove it it was glued on so well there may nearly have been a confetti moment as the two would not come apart

OK so it is now brewed and bottled we will see in f or so days what it is like
