Just nicked this from the Independent. It's an amazing photo. The thieving little bar-steward.

Makes a change from reading about the depredations of the Tali-wing-nuts in Afghanistan and whining Incest losers. Does anyone remember going to the Pure Drop in Lagland Street, Poole, when they had a parrot on the bar. Dangerous bit of kit, as I recall.

I bet you don't remember the Ansty Arms.
As you're now in Wimborne, have you tried Eight Arch's Corbel? I've made it from a recipe, but never tried the genuine stuff.

I made it too, from the CAMRA book. One of the better IPAs I've brewed. Would be keen to try the original, must find a reason to go over wimborne way

The name rings a bell...but no. I'm 48 now, left Poole when I was 26. Only been back a handful of times since, and even in that time the old place has changed so much.
Never even heard of Corbel! I'll look out for it.

I was in a small local bar in hull the bluebell or something like that. I went to the toilet and while sitting on the throne the door opened and one set of footsteps came in. An argument started up and 2 voices were involved one saying “this place is fukcing sheite” the other saying “shut up or I will drown you” this went on for a few mins and I sat froze on the bog. The door opened one one set of footsteps went out. I left the toilet and went out to my brother in law to tell him what went on and he fell off the stool laughing pointing over to the far side of the bar where a man stood with a large parrot on his shoulder !! Apparently they are/were well known in hull as they always argued and the parrot swore like a trooper.

Parrots and the like are crazy. I'm not buying that they just "record and repeat."
Edit: Slightly off-topic: for everyone in general: check out "Bunny the Dog" on YouTube. Maybe he talks, maybe he doesn't but it sure looks like he does.

No chance. This boy was giving as good as he got. Swearing and giving out to it’s owner. Deffs a sharp mind and not a tape recorder type argument.

I agree and that's what I'm saying--not buying that they just record.
Makes me feel bad sometimes that I'm not a vegetarian.

Seriously, that was funny but, no, I would never. I was generally speaking of cows and pigs, I guess.
I no longer eat the young'uns. Wife's a vegetarian, almost vegan. I back her 100%.

The Blue Boar, a Fuller's pub, used to do a decent pint and some good music in the cellar. Trouble is it was usually full of hooray Henries and Tory vvanker types, but the beer and music used to be alright. I used to like the Brewhouse on the High Street, especially when they brewed their own beer, although Milk Street beer isn't bad. I wonder if it's still going? I stopped going to High Street when it became Chav Central and started drinking in the ex-serviceman's club in North Rd. Generally I can't stand clubs, but Mark Ambrose used to keep an absolutely sterling bar with five pumps of excellent ale. Well worth a visit just for the beer. Can't vouch for the atmosphere- it's a club ffs.
