I bet the internet providers are going to see a huge spike in bandwidth usage this Christmas day as families go online (skype etc) to wish each other a happy Christmas.

<establishment >Ok I’m engaging with a snug thread which I try not to, however ... please take care... the rules are there for good reasons and even if mixing households for Christmas have a care and recognise the risk isn’t just about you it’s the people you meet and the chain thereafter. Yes I know I’m the boring establishment but these restrictions are not forever, stick with it and make more beer while you have the time ... brilliant season for lagering </establishment>

My parents are 79 and 74, we haven't seen them since February, and would dearly love to do so. But we aren't travelling there, nor are we seeing my wife's family dahn sarf. Our friend, who lives alone and sees nobody, is coming to us after Christmas as we are part of his 'social bubble'. I think the restrictions should remain consistent, as there has been talk of a 5 day relaxation, followed by a prolonged clampdown into the new year. That seems enormously counterproductive.

@Doive How far away are they? Are they in good health? Can you do video calls with them? I think you are doing the right thing. You should see them in the Spring or Summer. Are you all in restricted areas? Could you meet outdoors?

New variant covid circulating.....I am now seriously considering banning any visits form daughters to my house over the Christmas week. A lot can change in a week

The Mrs 80 odd years old parents we can eat Turkey any day of the year don't have to be the 25th.

Info?
In my area the rate is rising after being low all here. I hear reports of different symptoms i.e. headaches and body aches. Sounds like the flu. Local council suggested a new strain. I think it's more those who had it and continued on their daily routine just saying they didn't get tested because "I only had an headache" and going all defensive

I have a question I suspect what the answer will be but it might be worth asking.

Is the order of groups totally strict?

i.e. Say a lady of 82 gets a phone call to get the vaccination and her husband is 78 do they do them in different waves if the set it at 80+ first or would they get the husband done the same time?

It will be interesting to hear what the restrictions announced in the Netherlands will be. They seem set to have national lockdown imminently, over Christmas and into mid-January, as do the Germans.

People seem to forget that this is a global issue, and precautions are being taken iby many governments.

The french government seem to be planning a 5-day relaxation of the rules, after rising cases ruled out more:

I personally think that mixing with others at Christmas is, frankly ridiculous.
I certainly won't be mixing with anyone.
The trouble in our household is my two sons, 19 and 22.
Unfortunately, neither of them are driven by their hearts or heads!!!!

I think the thing to remember is that a majority that will mix over Xmas are mixing with all their family and friends now anyway.

I can only speak for my family we haven't seen each other closely since this started and that will carry on, workmates were discussing this today and many who have been staying away are now saying **** it we are going to have a good Christmas, if the majority do that we are going to be in all kinds of trouble come the new year.
