Most water supply company websites will provide a typical analysis for a consumers local area if you find the right section and punch in the postcode.

I found a RO source yesterday, 10p/l which is less than half the cost of Ashbeck. Looking at doing a lager this afternoon.

Now I dont know a huge amount about water treatment but my understanding is, f you use RO water you have to build it up to your preferred profile using various minerals (Gypsum, etc). It's kind of like starting with a blank slate. I'm happy to be corrected on this if I'm wrong (And I'm sure someone will f I am )

Yes, plan is to mix with a quantity of treated tap and add a small amount of calcium chloride (it’s too high in alkalinity to treat without diluting). Not looked into the numbers yet.

Results are in ... after water report ... ph is 7.36.... alkaline is 80ppm.. and water is hard ... so what do you think ???

80ppm isnt massively high for alkalinity but for pale beer you want it under about 50ppm (30ppm for pale lagers)

Does RO water provide good results ? My missus could also use it for her fish tank. And no .. not had a water report.

I have only ever used RO water for brewing and we all drink it and use it for cooking. I would of spent a small fortune on bottled water by now. Get one you wont regret it.

I could use bottled water and tap water mixed toether to get required alkalinity and ph??

In the past I've mixed 20L of Ashbeck with 10L of tap water, which improved my pale beers quite a bit. I've got very hard water, but now rely on basic water chemistry to achieve better results.

i suffer a sharp after taste too. i treat with campden, which helps a bit.
just looked at welsh water website. it gives calcium carbonate 130ppm and calcium at 52ppm.
any ideas if this might be the cause?

I am going to try bottled water ... I will have to add chemicals to get the correct water... am also going to try R O water , which will also need to chemicals ... i am intent on getting it right ... tap water is rubbish .
