I won't go into the ins and outs of the method - there are plenty of other threads on this.

I have about 1.6 litres starter in a 5 litre bottle.

I shook vigorously and got this:

but within 10 mins or so it's ended up like this:

Not enough shaking? Too much wort? Not enough 'space' Or is this everyone elses experience and it's ok?

I do starters in a 1.5 litre fermenting jar, also SNS method so only really ever do 1 litre ones. I've never seen it climb as high as that (I dont have the headspace for that) but it always dies back straight away with mine too. Don't think you have anything to worry about tbh.
