As mentioned a 15litre stock pot (think this is the same as I bought), sieve and thermometer and following Clibits simple ag thread is enough.

I did two stove top brews this way (without a bag, which would have made things easier...) and think I would have been happy making 10 litre batches this way along side kits....but SWMBO hated the smell and me taking over the kitchen for 5hours (at least for your first few attempts).

Both give "everything" you need (to start, maybe barring some hose fittings for the cooler) - remember your 5% forum discount as well.

I went for the HBC option (can't remember why) but added the geterbrewed false bottom at Xmas, which helps especially when using leaf hops.

If costs are a big consideration (and/or will help ease SWMBO) have a read of this (peco boiler is added at post 8) if not so much, then have a read of the various Braumeister/GF threads and enjoy your SHINY SHINY (I would enjoy either, just can't justify the costs).

3 vessel is more similar to how commercial breweries brew, I think adding a mash tun might allow me to add an hour or two to my brew days and make two beers in a day (mashing the 2nd as I boil the first).

Your time has to be part of your consideration too, and others split their brew days with over night mashes and/or no chill cubes.

As long as you find something that works for you and you enjoy what's in your glass - that's the most important thing and part of the beauty of this hobby.

I started with a DIY jobbie, mash tun from a cool box, boiler from heavy duty plastic bin with a copper coil chiller. All in all cost about 15% the price of a GF.

The first brew went really well but hell, what a faff.

I can only brew outside, have no room other than for kegs, gas and ingredients. I decided there and then that this setup was no good for me and the money spent was wasted.

Went straight on to a GF and wish I'd done it straight away. It fits perfectly with the space I have, makes fantastic wort very efficiently and yes, it's expensive but will always have some residual value should I decide I no longer want it.

If you can afford Clint, go for one of these. You'll see a massive saving on ingredients vs kits.

Cheers
