Sent for wine equipment, just need a bit of advice

Hi,
I have sent away for a 5 gallon bucket with lid, that will take an airlock,
a 23 Litre clear plastic Carboy.
and a Beaverdale bolero 30 bottle kit,
and one paint stirrer that will fit drill for mixing and degassing,
When I start brew in bucket, and is ready to transfer to carboy, do I degass it in the bucket then transfer, and leave in the carboy, to clear and bottle.
Or do i rack it from the carboy to the bucket, then back to the carboy where it would remain to bottle.
hope this is easy to understand, basically what im asking is what's the method you would use with the above equipment, and kit.

When your wine has finished fermenting, or ideally a few days afterwards, then it would be best if you racked it to another vessel before de-gassing and adding the stopper/stabiliser sachet and the finings.

So, ideally, ferment in the bucket then rack to the carboy.

But, your electric drill whizzer probably won't fit through the neck of the carboy.

If you have one bucket and one carboy, then I would de-gas, stop, stabilise and add finings in the bucket, then rack to the carboy a week later and put that away in the coolest place you can find for a few months before bottling.


And I think you mean Barolo rather than Bolero ;)
 
If you degas it in the FV then you are likely to stir up all the sediment so would need to let it settle out again ;)
 
I don't use a degassing tool. I rack from the FV to a carboy and then add stabiliser etc and then give the carboy a good few shakes. This knocks out most of the gas, then add the finings and leave to clear. I have more carboys and rack the clear wine to another carboy and leave to bulk age. I think you can get a bit anal about degassing. My method seems to work and gets good results, without resorting to excessive mechanical techniques.

Do you use the plastic carboy on your final step or glass?

Do you use the plastic carboy on your final step or glass?

Is that another way of asking if he looks like an ordinary human being (plastic) or Derek Poundstone (glass)? ;)
